Sorry for the late updates but cellphone coverage has been very spotty. Saturday morning was overcast as he headed towards the Grayson Highlands. It was Saturday so there was a lot of weekend hikers on the trail as well as the "Bubble" of thru hikers. Saw the wild ponies early in the afternoon and then later at the shelter. That was really neat experience as the ponies would come up to you. One started licking his arm to get the salt.
He arrived at the Thomas Knob shelter around 3:00 p.m. and the sky had turned black. The winds started to gust so every hikers stopped and we had a full house that night. The weather brought rain, hail and intense winds.
