Don't know where they started from today as I did not hear from them last night. Today I got text that Bruce's knees are bothering him. A lot of up and down grades, roots and rocks on the trail, which isn't too good on old knees. So they decide to stay at Nantahala today. They were waiting to check into a room, sitting by the creek relaxing. They did tell me a trail angel met them with a gift of Easter candy and a hard boiled Easter egg. She was a member of a local hiking club. There seems to be quite a bit of trail magic out there. This is the busiest time of the year for thru hikers so the support is plentiful handing out treats. That sounds like fun. I could do that, be on the trail, give out goodies, but still sleep in my bed at night.
UPDATE started at Cold Springs and hiked 12 miles to the inn. They got a nice hot meal, a hot shower, which I know they needed. They shared a room with two fellow hikers and the cost was only $15 each. Pretty cheap for a bed in the woods. Breakless was one of the hikers. He got his trail name from never taking a break and walking really fast. LL retro is the other hiker. Evidently he wears a lot of LLBean.
Still waiting on the guys to get their trail names. A few have been suggested for Bruce but none have stuck yet.
